JANUARY 26TH: ARTIST SPOTLIGHT & CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARDS

Major Artist Spotlight: Lil Wayne- Rebirth

Lil Wayne has experimented with many different sounds on his latest rock effort, “Rebirth.” The problem is his experiment wasn’t finished tastefully, or cohesively. “Rebirth,” is all over the place sonically. It’s hard to enjoy this album with over bearing auto tune, and off key singing. Diehard Wayne fans may appreciate it, but everyone else will either like it or hate it. I’m sure we will all forget about this album when Wayne drops the Carter IV. For now, we must all be patient. Weezy F Baby has disappointed us with “Rebirth,” but I’m confident he’ll make a comeback when the time is right for the fourth installment of “The Carter.”

With all this being said, there are few decent tracks on “Rebirth.” “Drop the World,” “On Fire,” “American Star,” and “Get a Life” are all solid cuts on Wayne’s rock effort. The rest of “Rebirth” sounds too mixed up and questionable. More rock producers could have been utilized on this album to give Wayne something more concrete within the genre. Production on “Rebirth” comes from Cool & Dre, Tha Bizness, Chase N Cashe, Hit Boy, DJ Infamous, Kevin Rudolph, Travis Barker, Patrick Stump, and The Justice League.

Indie Artist Spotlight: Meko McAfee

MEKO MCAFEE is also 1/3 of THE MADE, a group out of California. Mr. McAfee is an artist who is also working on his solo project. "Loving You" was chosen because of its soft melody; it is like a breath of fresh air! No hardcore, bouncing, bass dropping, just simple melody and rhythm with a message behind it. I give Meko McAfee's "Loving You" **4-STARS**

Chairman Of The Boards: Apollo DeLorean

What do you get if you mix the Greek god of the sun and music, a famous actor, and a classic movie? You get production wizard Apollo Delorean, hailing from Voorhees, NJ. Apollo, who has a sound that has often been described as “bright” and “classic” (thus, Apollo Delorean, get it?), is not your same old ordinary everyday producer.

Apollo first entered the entertainment scene as a child. You prolly seen him chillin’ with Bill Cosby eating Jell-O pudding before you could even tie your shoes. He knew then, he was made for entertainment. This notion later transitioned to the music field, getting involved with a few local outfits. In just a few short years later, Apollo was crafting music for artists such as Yung Berg. How did he get so far so soon? Simple: he worked for it. “My grind is retarded,” says Apollo, who admits to working 10 hour days at the office, THEN working 6+ hour days in the studio. This “retard grind” has created a sound that has the ability to make you feel EXACTLY how he wants you to feel (peep “Pimp Shit Part 2 on his website). On his sound, Apollo mentions “I do what I wanna do. I’d rather break into the game because of MY sound then be trendy. Every great producer has their own sound,” later citing Timblanad, Drumma Boy, and Polow Da Don as persons he studies. His pursuit of greatness is so focused, he claims that “if I found out Timbaland ate a box a Cheese-Its every day while making tracks, I’d do the same!” With future work in progress with buzz worthy up and coming artists, such as Mike Dream, Apollo may be living up to his name faster than most. If you wanna get at Apollo, be ready to blast off: “I wanna be that guy who comes in and makes an impact. I wanna shake things up."
